Why do images sometimes take so long to generate, and will I be charged for this?
We shut down our servers when they're not being used for 10 seconds or more to reduce costs. Once a request is put through, the server will cold boot for around 45 seconds.
You will NOT be charged for cold boot time. Every subsequent image produced when the server is not cold will take around 3 seconds.
We are currently working on keeping the servers hot at low cost, so cold boot should be negligible soon.
